PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Managing the implementation of a system, the conversion of data into a GIS-compatible format, or the programming of a customized software solution requires expert management. This level of expertise is frequently missing from an organization and is often not worth installing internally on a permanent basis. With management experience of over dozens such projects, we provide this service for your project either during an initial transition period, or throughout the life of the project.
EXPERIENCE
System Implementation
Specification and management of processes required to implement a GIS system. Includes hardware, networking, software, security, staffing, disaster recovery, data collection, data conversion, custom software development, systems integration, and training. This sometimes places us in the position of Acting GIS Manager, while an organization recruits its own manager, or in support of existing staff that possess lesser skills.
Data Conversion
Provide specifications of data conversion, traditionally from paper to electronic format, but more often now from one electronic format to another, as in from CAD to GIS format. Create and execute quality assurance procedures for testing that conversion meets quality standards. Implement workflow management systems such as those based on ESRI's Job Tracking Extension (JTX), to manage the flow of data from client to vendor and back, through quality assurance and into production.
Software Development
Manage the process of custom software development, often as an application developed on top of a commercial GIS software package, or the integration of a non-GIS software package with GIS. Such a project may be carried out by contractors or by in-house staff. In either case, the client often lacks the expertise to manage the process from a technical perspective, and to provide the technical insight that would help steer the project towards success. We can provide this expertise on a contract basis, even when we are not the ones developing the actual software.
Staffing
Assist in the specification of required staff to support a GIS implementation or a specific software development project. Assistance with recruitment and hiring. We have on occasion participated in Civil Service interview panels to assist government agencies in the initial hiring process, when the organization does not yet possess sufficient knowledge of GIS.
