Borehole Import Extension
This free ArcView Extension lets you generate 3D borehole shapefiles from text and DBF files. These shapefiles can be viewed in a View document, or if you have 3D Analyst, in a 3D Scene, where they can be rotated and viewed from any direction.
Loading the extension adds a button to your View button bar. Pressing the button prompts you for for a borehole composite file, which at a minimum must contain six numeric fields that describe the X, Y, and Z coordinates of the top and bottom of each borehole segment. You can also have any number of other attribute fields, such as borehole ID, segment ID, lithology, and geochemistry. The resulting shapefile is automatically added to the current View. You can then copy the theme to a 3D Scene, or add the theme directly into the 3D Scene. Drilling logs and other such donwhole tables (containing bearing, azimuth, and depth) must be first composited to the format described above.
This extension has been tested on ArcView 3.1.1 in Windows NT 4.0 (SP3) and Windows 95. Download the file, unzip it, and place it in your $AVHOME/ext32 directory. In the Extensions... list in ArcView it will appear as the Borehole import extension. By downloading and using this extension you acknowledge the following:

HTML Help ActiveX DLL The HHActiveX.dll is required if you are opening HTML Help (.CHM) files that contain glossaries. Download this DLL into the Windows\System directory (or equivalent), and then run the following command from the Start | Run... dialog to register the DLL: regsvr32 hhactivex.dll. The .CHM file will still display without adding this DLL, but the glossary will not show. ".CHM" files also require that you have Internet Explorer 4.x or above installed.
