It is surprising to realize how many GIS users still struggle through repetitive tasks without the benefit of customization. I specialize in customizing ESRI software, having started programming ArcInfo before it even had a programming language. My forté is in writing custom extensions in AML, Avenue, ODE, and ArcObjects. I also create Web mapping sited for clients using ESRI's IMS technology. My oldest application has been in continuous use since 1989!

ArcInfo

I have been an ArcInfo user since 1986, in version 3. I have been a Beta tester of ArcInfo since 1991. Since then I have programmed extensively in CPL, AML, and INFO, and more recently in ODE and ArcObjects (in Visual Basic). I have managed, created, or participated in the creation of over a dozen substantial ArcInfo applications, with heavy emphasis on user interaction and automation of processes.

ArcView

I have been an intensive user and a Beta tester of ArcView since its inception. I have programmed in Avenue, with both Dialog Designer and Visual Basic as the GUI front ends, as well as in ArcObjects in the latest version of ArcView. I have managed, created, or participated in the creation of over a dozen ArcView-based applications, the most complex of which tied in six other software packages into ArcView, and some of which are now commercial software packages.

Internet Mapping

With the growing popularity in Internet mapping, I have assisted clients in implementing customized Internet Map Server sites, using both MapObjects and Arc IMS technologies. As with desktop programming, my emphasis in Internet mapping customization is on ease of use and user documentation.

 

GUI

I have designed the Graphical User Interfaces for a number of applications, primarily using Visual Basic and Visio. Some of these GUIs were incorporated directly into the user documentation from the very beginning of the projects, so that the manuals were constructed at the same time as the software itself.
