ArcGIS is a powerful step in the evolution of ESRI's GIS software. It wraps ArcView, PC and Workstation ArcInfo, all into a single user interface (for the analyst) and a single object model (for the programmer). But migrating to ArcGIS from the older software is not as easy as ESRI would like it to be. There are issues of data format and storage, changed or missing functionality, different user interface, and existing scripts and custom (or commercial) applications. This is the reason that many users are reluctant to try to migrate their existing projects to the new software, and sometimes to even unwrap and install the software. I specialize in helping users migrate from Workstation ArcInfo or ArcView 3.x to ArcGIS. I have helped clients to migrate data, convert or replace custom applications, and just learn the software.
