Since 1986 I have written, modified, or augmented, five substantial
applications for the automation of GIS-based digital cartography. The
types of cartography that was involved pertained to municipal government,
regional government, engineering and environment, pipelines, and real
estate. In each of the applications I incorporated tools for editing the
digital data and tools for generating high-quality map output. Two of
the projects generated map atlases. One generated color-separated ready-for-press
electronic files. And one generated a PDF-based atlas, accessible via
the Web.
